MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has signed into law the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said on Saturday.
Valte said the President signed the legislation last Wednesday, September 12.
Senator Edgardo Angara is the main proponent of the Cybercrime Prevention Act, which is “an act defining cybercrime, providing for prevention, investigation and imposition of penalties therefore and for other purposes.”
Angara was also the proponent of the Data Privacy Act, which was signed into law by Aquino last August.
Around 300 Taiwanese allegedly involved in cybercrime were also arrested last month.
According to Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Ma. Antonette Mangrobang , Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has ordered the deportation of the suspects. -- With a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
