MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court regrets the death of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, whom they described as a "partner in judicial reform."
Robredo's body was retrieved on Tuesday, August 21, 3 days after the plane carrying him and 3 others crashed into sea off Masbate. The plane was en route to Naga City from Mactan, Cebu.
The SC said Robredo was a member of the Justice Sector Coordinating Council, an inter-agency group composed of the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Department of Budget and Management.
The council, which first convened in 2011, was formed to facilitate the exchange of resources among the agencies to help expedite the resolution of cases.
Robredo also chaired the National Police Commission, which has a technical committee on crime prevention and criminal justice system. The committee developed the national crime prevention plan, which integrated the strategies of the 5 pillars of the justice system, the SC included.
"We join the Filipino nation in mourning the passing of Secretary Robredo. We send our condolences to his bereaved family," SC spokeswoman Ma. Victoria Gleoresty Sp. Guerra said. - Rappler.com
