The Dictator Ferdinand Marcos gave Duterte the authoritarian model to emulate. The "culture of impunity" is now the new normal in Duterte's Philippines.

The most that the Senate committees on drugs, public order and human rights can do about the death of the Ozamis city mayor, his wife and his security men is merely to conduct an investigation "in aid of legislation" and to issue a "report" containing its findings and recommendations. That's all.

As he has repeatedly bragged, Duterte will "protect" and "pardon " his police officers who "obey his orders". (The foundation of his orders is his "kill kill kill" mentality).

Recall that Duterte's Department of Justice has downgraded the murder case of Chief Supt. Marcos and his men to homicide (bailable offense).

Recall, further, that Duterte's PNP Chief has reinstated Chief Supt. Marcos and has moved him over to Mindanao (to cool off until his controversy is forgotten by the people ). Marcos is due for promotion, too, as per news reports.

I expect the PNP national headquarters to swallow hook, line and sinker the pro forma version of the "nanlaban" report of the PNP Misamis Occidental after a ministerial or anemic investigation.

More deaths will follow. Expect them by the thousands as promised by Duterte ("one hundred thousand bodies in Manila Bay", "slaugter three million addicts" [citing Hitler's Holocaust], etc.).

Fear must be instilled in the hearts and minds of local government officials and the general public.

Autocrats perpetuate themselves in power by violence and fear (add corruption and crony capitalism, too).

Duterte's paid approval rating surveys inspire him to live in a world divorced from reality.

Change scamming. ..
A mayor declared by the nation's president as linked to the drug trade has been killed.
