I admire women who courageously tell Duterte to his face that he is a malicious revisionist insofar as the history of martial law and the Dictator Marcos (his idol) are concerned. Ma. Serena Diokno, chair of the National Historical Commission, is one such brave woman. She has resigned as chief of the National Historical Commission because Duterte intentionally ignored the historical findings of the commission on the deception in Ferdinand Marcos' war-time heroism claims. She criticized Duterte for ignoring the true voice of history and for ignoring the demand of the people for justice (just like the Supreme Court). Diokno stressed that it had previously written Duterte disputing his statement that there was "no study disputing the Marcos war record". The commission had previously informed Duterte of its own research on earlier studies and war records that seriously cast doubt on the alleged medals of the Dictator Marcos as a war hero. I hope other public officials would have the moral courage and integrity to emulate this woman.
